One of my favourite things about running a small business is connecting with other entrepreneurs. I love hearing their stories, finding out what inspired them to get started and learning what keeps them going when things get a little crazy.

And every now and then, you meet someone you just click with.

That's how I felt when I met Sylvie Roy, the woman behind Eclair Lips. And yes, she happens to share the same name as my daughter and she's every bit as wonderful.

We haven't known each other for very long, but sometimes you meet someone and feel like you've been friends for years. Sylvie is one of those people.

So, I thought it would be fun to introduce you to her and share a little more about the business she's built.

A Little About Eclair Lips

Sylvie calls herself the Director of Quirkiness at Eclair Lips, which should tell you a little something about her personality!

Eclair Lips is a family-run business creating handmade natural lip balms inspired by the fun flavours many of us remember from our teenage years.

Think delicious dessert-inspired flavours, a little nostalgia and even positive affirmations. All wrapped up in a lip balm designed to keep you lips moisturized.

But how did it all begin?

I asked Sylvie a few questions about starting her business, what she loves about being an entrepreneur and which products hold a special place in her heart.

Behind the Business: A Chat with Sylvie

Q: What inspired you to start Eclair Lips?

A: When I was in my mid-thirties, I wanted lip balm in fun flavors like the ones I used as a teen. But I was looking for a natural version with the perfect texture - I'm autistic, and the sensory aspect of lip balm is calming for me. I couldn't find what I needed so I learned to make my own! I had been working in marketing and was really excited at the idea of launching an online lip balm business, so I went for it.

Q: What do you love most about running your own business?

A: I love the freedom to let my creativity run wild! I always have so many ideas - from product flavors, different marketing angles to video inspiration. It brings me so much joy to be able to pursue so many of them. Even when they're flops! I always learn something that helps me grow, and I find it really fulfilling.

Q: What is your favorite product and why?

A: That is a tough one. We have so many flavors I love, but our Truth + Love Collection. It holds a special place in my heart because of the labels we use. They all feature positive affirmations, and I often come up with new ones in support of folks who need it or to stand up about things that are important to me.

More Than Just Lip Balm

One thing I really appreciate about Sylvie's story is how she turned something she personally needed into a business.
